This Word Work Activities Short Vowel Boom Cards Bundle set will give your students lots of practice with this skill. Students will look at the picture, and then will need to build the word with the mixed up letters. These are great for distance learning and center time. They are self-checking, interactive, and fun.

WORD WORK WITH BOOM CARDS:
So, with these self-checking, interactive, Boom Cards – students will be given a picture of a word, along with the letters to build that word. BUT, they are mixed up. Students will have to drag the letters to the correct box to build the word. If they drag them all correctly, they can move on to the next slide, but if they don’t place the letters in the correct boxes, the ones they missed get dropped back down and they have to try again.
Why is this such a good skill? I believe that we have to give our students as many opportunities as possible with sounds and words. The more fun we make the task, the better readers, writers, and spellers we will create. This is not the one all be all, but this is one of the ways we can help students start to understand the beginning, middle, end of sounds with our CVC words, to blending with our beginning and ending blends, as well as other phonetic opportunities.

What are Boom Cards?
Boom Cards are digital task cards that are housed on a platform called wow.boomlearning.com. These are different from Google Slides because they are self-checking, self-paced, and super engaging. You can pay to have an account, (under $30 a YEAR) or you can get a free account and use the fast-pin to share the decks with your students. You can share through Google Classroom or any other way you typically share a link with your students. The fast-pin is great, but if you want to track data, then the paid version might be for you.
I would suggest you try a few decks first, then once you see how amazing they are, $30 a year might seem pretty doable. We actually called administration in to watch how Boom works, and to see how engaged our students were with Boom. As a result, they ended up buying our accounts for us! To summarize, they thought Boom was as amazing as we did!

What is needed to use Boom Cards:
To use Boom Cards, you must be connected to the Internet. Boom Cards play on modern browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge). Apps are available for Android, iPads, iPhones, and Kindle Fires. For security and privacy, adults must have a Boom Learning account to use and assign Boom Cards. You will be able to assign the Boom Cards you are buying with "Fast Pins," (play provides instant feedback for self-grading Boom Cards). Fast Play is always a free way for students to engage with Boom Cards decks. For additional assignment options you'll need a premium account. If you are new to Boom Learning, you will be offered a free trial of our premium account. Read here for details: http://bit.ly/BoomTrial.
You may be eligible for a free trial from Boom Learning. Read here for details: http://bit.ly/BoomTrial. If you choose not to stay on a premium account after your free trial, you will still be able to assign all your Boom Cards to as many students as you see fit using Fast Play pins (which give instant feedback for decks that are self-grading).

I have used this activity both for virtual learning and for whole group on our interactive board. I wish there was a mixed vowel option, but this was great short vowel practice for students.

This provided manipulatives without having to sanitize after each student, and they were engaged. Each one was so excited as they waited for their turn to come around again! It provided the practice needed for segmenting CVC and distinguishing between different vowels.
