HOW TO PLAY...

  • The game has 8 words on each card, 55 cards, and 57 different words. The object of the game is to say the one word on your card that matches the middle card before your opponents say their matching word.
  • Every card has a match - it's crazy, but it works.
  • You can also split the deck and have two groups playing. It doesn't matter how many cards you use or if a card gets lost.
  • It takes a bit of set up (printing, laminating, and cutting) but I promise... you won't be disappointed that you spent a bit of time in prep. Your students will LOVE it!

My students love playing Spot-It to work on their phonics. I liked that the words were colour-coded to help students find their words faster. I used this at my teacher table, and let my lower readers simply point to matching words they saw, that we’d then read together. The game’s also simple and engaging enough that the students could play it on their own after being taught, and were excited to.

This is a fun game for learners! The prep work though is a bit much as the boxes don’t line up exactly. It would be so much easier on the teacher if the cards were all touching and all you had to do was cut around them and then cut apart. All the excess white in the middle is just adds more work.

I teach 4th grade, but I have some 1st grade readers. These are great for rapid word recognition and the best part is that my kiddos that really struggle have the best time playing this while the other students are a little envious! (for once they are the ones succeeding) It is sooo much fun!
