Short U CVC Words Coding Robot Activity Mat Printables

Short U CVC words become a hands-on coding adventure with this printable coding robot mat. Students read a task card, work out which picture on the grid is the answer, and program their coding robot to travel there. Phonics practice and early coding skills come together in one engaging literacy center.

Teachers use the programmable coding robot they already have in the classroom. The coding robot is not included, so this printable pack works with the one you own.

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

• Task cards that students read and answer, with each answer matching a picture on the mat
• Enough picture cards to build a 6x6 grid for the robot to travel across
• Answer document so students can check their work after the robot reaches its spot
• Coding sheet for students to record the movements they programmed

HOW THIS WORKS:

• Print and assemble the picture cards into a 6x6 grid on the floor or a table
• A student picks a task card and reads the short U word or clue
• They find the matching picture on the grid and plan the robot's path
• They program the coding robot, record each move on the coding sheet, and press go
• They use the answer document to check whether the robot landed on the correct picture
