Short I CVC Words Coding Robot Printable Mat Pictures

Short i CVC words become a hands-on adventure with this coding robot printable mat. Students read a task card, figure out which picture matches the word, then program their coding robot to travel across the grid to the correct answer.

It blends early phonics practice with beginning coding, so students build reading skills, sequencing, and problem solving at the same time. It works well for literacy centers, small groups, and early finishers.

Please note: the coding robot is not included. Use the programmable coding robot you already have in your classroom.

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

• Task cards with short i words for students to read and answer
• Picture cards, enough to build a 6x6 grid mat
• Answer document so students can check their work after the coding robot reaches its spot
• Coding sheet for recording each movement the robot makes

HOW THIS WORKS:

• Lay out the picture cards in a 6x6 grid to create the mat
• Students choose a task card and read the short i word
• They find the matching picture on the mat, which is the answer location
• Students plan the path, program the coding robot, and record the steps on the coding sheet
• After the robot lands, students use the answer document to check their answer
