Short E Words Coding Robot Printable Mat CVC & CVCC

Short E words come alive when students program a coding robot to find the right answer. This printable mat gives K-2 learners a hands-on way to practice reading CVC words with pictures, plus CVCC words, while building early coding and sequencing skills.

Students read a task card, work out which picture or word matches, and then code their robot across the mat to reach it. The coding robot is not included. Teachers use the programmable coding robot they already have in their classroom.

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

• Task cards that students read and answer, with each answer matching a card on the mat
• Enough picture cards to build a 6x6 grid
• CVC short E words with pictures
• CVCC short E words for use with a larger 6x6 mat
• Answer document so students can check their work after the robot reaches its spot
• Coding sheet for recording each movement

HOW THIS WORKS:

• Print and lay out the cards to create the grid mat
• Students read a task card and decide on the correct answer
• They plan the route and record the movements on the coding sheet
• They program the coding robot to travel to the matching card
• They use the answer document to check whether the robot landed on the right word or picture

BENEFITS FOR STUDENTS:

• Strengthens short E decoding and word recognition
• Builds early coding, sequencing, and problem solving skills
• Encourages self-checking and independence
• Works well for literacy centers, small groups, and STEM centers
