S Blends Matching Game, Initial Blends, Grade 1

S blends matching games give first graders a hands-on way to practice one of the trickiest phonics skills: reading and recognizing consonant blends at the beginning of words. This center-ready activity covers all eight initial S blends, including SC, SK, SL, SM, SN, SP, ST, and SW, giving students repeated exposure to blend patterns through a simple, engaging picture-to-word matching format.

With 132 cards included, this game works beautifully as a literacy center, early finisher activity, or small group practice tool. Students build decoding confidence by connecting familiar images to their written blend words, reinforcing both phonemic awareness and spelling-sound correspondence at the same time.
