Place Value Coding Robot Mat Tens and Ones Printable

Place value coding robot mat activities turn tens and ones practice into a hands-on coding adventure. Students read a task card about dimes and pennies, figure out the value, and then program their coding robot to travel to the matching picture on the grid.

It is a fun way to build place value understanding while introducing early coding skills, and it works well for math centers, small groups, and early finishers. Teachers use the coding robot they already have in the classroom. The coding robot and the plastic mat are not included.

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

• Task cards that students read and answer, with each answer matching a card on the mat
• Enough picture cards to make a 6x6 grid
• Answer document so students can check their work after the coding robot reaches its spot
• Coding sheet for students to record the movements they programmed

HOW THIS WORKS:

• Print the picture cards and arrange them in a 6x6 grid on your own plastic mat
• Students choose a task card and count the dimes (tens) and pennies (ones)
• They find the answer on the grid and plan the path for the coding robot
• Students program the coding robot and record each movement on the coding sheet
• The answer document lets them self-check once the robot lands on a card
