When you think about teaching grammar to first graders, you might picture a lot of head tilts and puzzled faces. Trust me, I've been there! But grammar lays the foundation for strong reading and writing skills, even at this young age. When our little learners start to understand how sentences are built, how punctuation guides meaning, and how nouns can be singular or plural, they're building confidence that carries across every subject area.
The only problem? Our grammar curriculum was... well, pretty much non-existent. Yet, our students were still expected to master the language standards. So what did we do? We rolled up our sleeves and created the resources our students needed!
