Digraphs Coding Robot Activity Mat: SH, TH, WH, CH, PH

Digraphs coding robot activity mat for SH, TH, WH, CH, and PH. Students read task cards, then program their coding robot to the answer. Robot not included.

Misc Category:

Digraphs coding robot activities turn phonics practice into a hands-on game. Students read a task card, work out the answer with the digraphs SH, TH, WH, CH, or PH, then program their coding robot to travel across the mat to the matching picture.

It blends reading, problem solving, and early coding in one printable. It works well for literacy centers, small groups, and early finishers. The coding robot is not included. Teachers use the programmable coding robot they already have in their classroom.

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

  • Task cards that students read and answer, with each answer matching a card on the mat
  • Enough picture cards to build a 6x6 grid mat
  • Answer document so students can check their work after the coding robot reaches its spot
  • Coding sheet for students to record the movements they programmed
  • Coding robot NOT included

HOW THIS WORKS:

  • Print and lay out the picture cards in a 6x6 grid
  • Students read a task card and decide which digraph word is the answer
  • They plan the path and program the coding robot to move to the correct picture
  • Students record each move on the coding sheet
  • They use the answer document to self-check once the coding robot stops

BENEFITS FOR STUDENTS:

  • Builds recognition of the digraphs SH, TH, WH, CH, and PH in real words
  • Strengthens reading and decoding skills with a clear purpose
  • Introduces sequencing, directions, and early coding logic
  • Encourages independence through built-in self-checking
  • Keeps students engaged during centers with a hands-on, movement-based task

The Bee-Bot game engages students by introducing coding through interactive play. Students program the Bee-Bot to navigate a themed grid, such as a map or story path, to reach specific destinations. This hands-on activity teaches sequencing, problem-solving, and directional skills in an exciting way. Each challenge encourages teamwork and critical thinking, as students work together to plan moves and troubleshoot, making learning about coding both accessible and enjoyable.
