Counting Tens and Ones Coding Robot Activity Printables

Practice counting tens and ones with a hands-on coding robot activity. Students solve task cards, then program their robot to the correct answer on a 6×6 grid.

Misc Category:

Counting tens and ones becomes a hands-on adventure with this coding robot activity. Students solve place value task cards, then program their coding robot to travel across a 6x6 grid and land on the card that matches their answer.

It is a simple way to introduce early coding while building number sense. Students practice reading tens and ones, solving, sequencing directions, and checking their own work. Please note that the coding robot and the mat are not included. Teachers use the programmable coding robot they already have in their classroom.

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

  • Task cards that students read and answer, with each answer matching a card on the grid
  • Enough picture cards to build a 6x6 grid
  • Answer document so students can check their answer after the coding robot reaches its location
  • Coding sheet for students to record the robot's movements

HOW THIS WORKS:

  • Students choose a task card and figure out the number of tens and ones.
  • They find the matching picture card on the grid.
  • Students plan the path and program the coding robot to reach that card.
  • They record each movement on the coding sheet.
  • Students use the answer document to check whether the robot landed in the right spot.

BENEFITS FOR STUDENTS:

  • Strengthens place value understanding with tens and ones
  • Introduces coding concepts like sequencing and giving step by step directions
  • Builds problem solving and persistence
  • Encourages self checking and independence
  • Works well for math centers, small groups, STEM centers, and early finishers

The Bee-Bot game engages students by introducing coding through interactive play. Students program the Bee-Bot to navigate a themed grid, such as a map or story path, to reach specific destinations. This hands-on activity teaches sequencing, problem-solving, and directional skills in an exciting way. Each challenge encourages teamwork and critical thinking, as students work together to plan moves and troubleshoot, making learning about coding both accessible and enjoyable.
