Coding Robot Activity Skip Counting by 2s 5s 10s Games

A hands-on coding robot activity where students find missing numbers in skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s, then program their robot to the answer.

Misc Category:

Looking for a coding robot activity that makes skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s feel like a game? Students figure out the missing number in a skip counting pattern, find that number on the grid, and then program their coding robot to travel there.

This hands-on math center blends number sense with early coding. Students practice sequencing, directional language, and problem solving while they build skip counting fluency. Use it with the programmable coding robot you already have in your classroom. The coding robot and the plastic mat are not included.

WHAT'S INCLUDED:

  • Task cards covering skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s
  • 70 picture cards, enough to make a 6x6 grid with plenty left over to build many different grids
  • Answer document so students can check their work after the coding robot reaches its spot
  • Coding sheet for students to record each movement

HOW THIS WORKS:

  • Lay out the picture cards in a 6x6 grid on your plastic mat
  • Students read a task card and work out the missing number in the skip counting pattern
  • They locate the answer on the grid
  • Students program the coding robot to move to that location
  • They record the steps on the coding sheet and check the answer document

WHY TEACHERS LOVE IT:

  • Easy to prep: print, cut, and set up your grid
  • Works well for math centers, small groups, and early finishers
  • Self-checking answer document supports independent work
  • Swap cards to create new grids and keep the activity fresh
  • Gives students a simple way to try coding while practicing math skills

BENEFITS FOR STUDENTS:

  • Builds confidence with skip counting patterns
  • Strengthens sequencing and logical thinking
  • Encourages persistence when debugging a path
  • Makes number practice active and engaging

We love the Beebots. I had this all set up for grade 1 when the upper grades came in to media class and they begged to try it. THEY LOVED IT TOO!
