This Fact Family No Prep Early Finisher Activity is a great way to give your students tons of practice with this skill! Covers fact families up to 10 and is a Fall themed resource. Can use either PPT or Google Slides.

This activity comes with:

  • PPT (that you can convert to Google Slides)
  • The ppt is timed to give students ample work time to complete the fact family, then the answers appear
  • Fact family "houses" for students to use a dry-erase marker to complete

HOW IT WORKS:

  • We present on our whiteboard (but you could use as independent activity as well by adding to your LMS)
  • Just press present, and as students finish working on their math skills, they grab their dry-erase marker and start working on the PPT. The slides are timed to give students enough time to work out the problem
  • Then the answers appear, students check their work, erase, and the slide moves on to the next problem
  • PPT is looped so that students can jump in at any time

1ST GRADE COMMON CORE MATH STANDARDS COVERED:

  • 1.OA.B.3: Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract. If 8 + 3 = 11 is known, then 3 + 8 = 11 is also known. (Commutative property of addition.) To add 2 + 6 + 4, the second two numbers can be added to make a ten, so 2 + 6 + 4 = 2 + 10 = 12. (Associative property of addition.)

How these work for PPT:

  1. You open up this resource in PPT
  2. Press Present/Play

  4. They begin answering the questions projected on the board

  6. Students check their work with the correct answer shown
  7. The ppt automatically goes to the next slide
  8. Students continue working through the slideshow
  9. As students finish their math work, they can jump in at any time
  10. BONUS: You get to help students who need your help while the rest of the class is engaged and learning!!

MATH CENTERS

How do you incorporate math center activities? When I left the classroom a few years back to move to the school board, we were at a point in our district where they didn’t want us doing math centers.  They only wanted literacy centers… blah, blah, blah. Well… I’m a rule follower, I REALLY am – but when I don’t believe or I do believe in something, BELIEVE me… I will find a way around the system to make it work for my students.  I KNEW that math centers or math groups would help my students, so we incorporated them into our literacy centers.  We have since moved back to allowing for math centers or math groups so that students can investigate on their own or within small groups.
