Career Day Writing and Craft Activity

This Career Day Writing and Craft Activity has everything you need to give students a chance to write about what they want to be when they grow up.  Students pick the profession, then complete the booklet about who they want to be, what they will need, and why they want to do that career.  Students will also complete a diagram of what their career person might need to be good at their job. Listed below are the community workers I have in the product. Each community worker is two pages and then there is a four-page booklet (half pages) that goes with each community worker/community helper.

What others have to say: 📢

I think of all of my writing activities that we hung outside our classroom walls, this was a FAVORITE!  But hear what others have to say... 🙂

  • My students loved doing these activities for career day. I loved that there were so many career choices available. In my class of 18 students, there was a career for every child's choice.

  • My students enjoyed putting this activity together. I liked that the space provided for my students to write was ample. There are many career options. My only suggestion would be to have a table of contents. I think this would make it easier to find the person for the selected career. I know it is suggested to print out the entire package and place them in a binder but would use up my allowance of copies for the month. Overall, the people are cute and the final student product makes for a great bulletin display. (I added table of contents - great suggestion)

  • Wow! There are so many careers available with this resource. Thank you for offering lots of characters. This package was a perfect accompaniment to our first grade Career Week project.

  • This was a very cute activity. Everything is laid out for you, very little work needed on your part! Would definitely recommend to fellow teachers!

Students in our school were invited to a career fair at the local high school. I went around to each classroom afterward and asked them about their experience and introduced this activity. The finished products were fantastic! The displays around the school are just beautiful. I am so impressed that this bundle gives you so many job and career titles; from teachers, doctors, youtubers, hairdressers, ninjas; whatever the students chose I could find the corresponding job title. High recommend this Career Day activity! You won’t be disappointed!

I go into classrooms and read Maybe you should fly a jet, maybe you should be a vet; we talk about all of the jobs that I do (Firefighter, EMT, Rancher, Vet Tech, Teacher, Tech Person, etc) and they got to use my suture kit, wear my Fire helmet, practice their first aid skills, and work with livestock equipment. The students then picked what they wanted to be when they grow up and wrote about it. These worked great.

Then do the craft in the afternoon. Almost all students had what they wanted to be. (Minus the student who wanted to be a fish…) You can use as many of the writing pages as you want. Very customizable to level of students or time allotted.

I loved this resource! It has been my favourite craft to do all year with my students. I am an EAL teacher working with a large number of kids who have limited English and was looking for an activity to tie into our theme of ‘The Community’ and to encourage the kids to practice the use of professions vocabulary and asking and answering the question ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’. This was the perfect resource! The kids loved the huge quantity of choices and they really were passionate about making them look beautiful. They also made a fabulous display that many other staff and students have been commenting on. Highly recommend!

My students enjoyed putting this activity together.

The older kids got interaction with people and I wanted to include the younger kids with Career day in school by doing this with them. There was a variety of resource and careers on this purchase. One suggestion I can make I would include maybe a tattoo artist, principal, dog walker.

I LOVE this resource! I take my class on mini field trips to learn about a career, then we spend time making the book. I have expanded the book to include how a worker uses reading, spelling, writing, math, social studies, science, technology, following directions skills, listening skills, and people skills on the job. This teaches my students that what they’re learning now will help them on the job when they’re an adult. We display their books in the hall along with photos of their field trips. My kids love writing about what they learned, and the pictures are fun to color. Super job!

This was the perfect craft for our college and career day. One thing I would love to see is an editable write up part, I had a student who wanted to be an engineer and I would have loved to have quickly been able to edit so he could have had that. (If I missed where this is an option, I apologize.)
