Builds number-sense foundations
Students in K and Grade 1 are forming their understanding of how numbers relate to quantity.
Matching a numeral to a group of objects reinforces the connection between the symbol (e.g. “7”) and the concept (7 items).
This resource directly supports CCSS K.CC.B.4: “understand the relationship between numbers and quantities.”
Because the sets go from 0-20, it gives room for gradual growth.
Offers repeated, low-stakes practice
Centers give students time to practice independently or with peers.
This resource includes six different sets (numbers 0–20) and covers for each set, providing variety. Teachers Pay Teachers
You can rotate cards, change the sets, or scaffold (start with 0–10, then move to 10–20) so students don’t just repeat the same thing over and over.
Repeated practice in small chunks helps retention.
Supports Differentiation:
In centers, you can tailor which sets students work on:
- Some may work on 0–10 until they master that.
- Others may push into 11–20.
- You could also mix easier and more challenging cards.
You can add supports (e.g. counting tools, tens-frame visuals) or challenge extensions (e.g. ask “Which number is one more/one less than this quantity?”).
Engages learners with hands-on matching
Kids get to physically match numerals and quantities.
It feels like a game, not a worksheet.
One reviewer said their students were “having fun while reviewing skills.” Teachers Pay Teachers
When students enjoy what they do, they do it more—and with more focus.
